REACTIONS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE versus GUILTY PEOPLE
I was in federal law enforcement for 25 years. One of the most important lessons you learn very early in your career is the following. When someone is accused of committing a crime, or crimes, guilty and Innocent people react very differently. In general, their reactions are the exact opposite of how one could possibly respond to the allegations against them.
INNOCENT PEOPLE
- When they are accused of a crime, or crimes, which they did not commit, innocent people become outraged over a false allegation, and immediately deny all responsibility.
- They fully cooperate with law enforcement as in 100%.
- They don’t lawyer up.
- They agree to take one or actually request a polygraph exam.
- They voluntarily allow law enforcement to search their phone, car, and/or home for evidence.
- They allow law enforcement to examine their bank and financial records.
- If it’s relevant, they volunteer to provide their DNA.
- They do this because they want a complete and thorough investigation. Why? Because they know law enforcement will not find any evidence of a crime. The investigation will instead confirm their innocence.
GUILTY PEOPLE
- Instead of becoming outraged, offended, and immediately denying the charge or charges, they become very defensive.
- They accuse law enforcement of planting evidence and/or framing them.
- They try to block the investigation in every way possible.
- They immediately lawyer up.
- They refuse to take a polygraph.
- They tell the police if they want to search their phone, car, or home, they must obtain a search warrant.
- They try to hide their bank and financial records from law enforcement.
- If DNA is requested, they refuse!
- In other words, they react in the opposite manner of an innocent person.
- They try to block every aspect of the investigation because they know it will eventually prove they are guilty.
When you read about Trump’s reaction to the criminal charges filed against him by NY and the federal government, ask yourself if he responds like an innocent or guilty person. OK, you can stop LOL because the answer to that question is incredibly obvious.
The answer to the question above may be obvious to you, but millions of Trump Cult members fall for the Trump scam. What is that scam? I am not guilty of stealing hundreds of Top Secret – Classified documents, I am being framed by a corrupt FBI and Justice Department, who maliciously filed 37 Felony charges against me. Is that the reaction of an innocent or a guilty person?
If you don’t follow or read about Trump Cult members, you will be shocked by the following. In their world, they believe Trump and agree that both the FBI and Justice Department are thoroughly corrupt, and Trump is a symbol of honesty and integrity. They also believe Trump is a victim of those two corrupt, government agencies.
Trump cult members aren’t worried about him endangering national security or possibly being a traitor. No, they’re upset with the Justice Department for investigating and then charging him with federal crimes. In their minds, the government has no right to investigate and/or charge their Supreme Leader. How scary is that?
Former VP Mike Pence, who’s running for President, recently commented on this issue. Pence said, if elected, he will clean house at the corrupt Justice Department. You expect that type of behavior in Russia, not the U.S. That’s the prevailing view in the Trump World. If a fascist mindset like this doesn’t scare you, it should. Remember when the Republican Party was proud to call themselves the party of Law & Order?
In New York, the DA charged Trump with 34 Corporate Fraud Felony charges. What was the reaction in the Republican Party? They weren’t upset with Trump for allegedly committing those crimes, they instead demanded an investigation of the NY District Attorney. Do you ever remember any political party going after prosecutors for investigating crimes and then charging those who violate the law? This is fascist insanity, but it’s the kind of behavior one expects from a cult.
In both the NY and Federal cases, Trump World has no evidence of corruption on the part of the DA or the Justice Department. Remember, in Trump World, evidence/proof is classified as Fake News, they believe what they are told by the Fox Propaganda network.
Their bogus conclusion is the following. If the New York DA and the Justice Department have the nerve to charge Trump with committing crimes, they must be corrupt. Once again, this is typical cult behavior. Remember, their Supreme Leader is never wrong, and nobody is allowed to challenge or criticize what he does or says. Cult members never use logic, facts, proof, or evidence. In addition, they have no relationship with the truth.
Actually I have to disagree here. My first career was that I worked in the bail bond business. I ran the largest bail bonds company in the USA at the time. I managed the state offices in NJ, CT, PA, and Florida. We did over 300 million dollars a year in bail in the 90’s. I have had more interaction with people who are accused of a crime than most can ever imagine. Only an idiot would give up their due process for any reason. it has no bearing on guilt or innocence. Any subjugation of rights is wrong. An assertion of anything else is a crime. As for the SDNY they are a crime family.
Scott: I respect your experience as a bail bondsman, but I am giving you the perspective of law enforcement, where we almost uniformly see innocent people fully cooperate with us [there are occasional exceptions]. In addition, we use to LOL when someone refused to take a polygraph. In our world, we no longer needed the polygraph, because we knew you were guilty.
The problem Robert is that many LEO’s felt it was okay to stomp on the rights individuals and did at will. It only comes to light usually when the accused has money and can fight back. OJ Simpson was one case that brought national attention. Even though I think he did it, he walked due LEO’s sloppiness. The protections are there for a reason. LEO’s doesn’t get circumvent laws and 12 people get to adjudicate the case. Any pre-determined notions would taint a trial and jury pool.
Hi Scott: I am not talking about stomping on the rights of individuals. I know it happens often, but in general, that isn’t the goal of law enforcement. Our goal isn’t trampling on someone’s rights, our goal is finding the TRUTH. What really happened! I am trying to explain that when someone fully cooperated with us, we knew they were almost certainly innocent. On the flip side, we strongly suspected someone was guilty when they refused to take a polygraph and/or tried to block our investigation. These examples aren’t always 100% accurate because there are always exceptions. However, my guess is it is true well over 90% of the time.

Allowing any of those things to happen under what you claimed innocent people do is foolish. Many innocent people get convicted because they give up these rights.I saw it all the time. That is why I helped my clients get lawyers. I have 2 lawyers in my family and I am close to a few others and they would kill me if I behaved like you said innocent people do. IMHO smart people do none of that.

Here’s my final comment to you. My experience in law enforcement was obviously very different from your experience as a bail bondsman.
I agree with you And I too am scared with where our country potentially is going. Trump is a mob boss, a cult leader and these right wing extremest are taking us back 50 yrs.
Our Supreme Court also needs laws and regulations because that too are out of control. We worked so hard to get this country moving forward. We can not afford to go back in time.

Folks have been “educated” by crime tv shows. That may be why they may be more likely to try to instantly protect themselves. The revelations of law enforcement wrongdoing and DA evidence withholding has made the public more cynical.
Very true Eva, especially in small, rural areas. but the point of the article was reinforce the concept that guilty and innocent people almost always react in very different ways after they are accused of committing a crime or crimes. Believe me when I say, the detectives are watching their body language, how they answer questions, and they are carefully watching tso sees if they cooperate or try to block the investigation.
Robert: Your blog raises some scary issues in our country. Apparently a good proportion of the population (the trump cult) completely ignores criminal activity on the part of their leader, who is now the front runner of the republican party. It seems that the concept of law and order is being perverted by this cult and used to scapegoat, malign, and marginalize various subgroups of the U.S. population who they consider to be outsiders. the fact that the republican front runner tried to overthrow the U.S. government and has no respect for the principles outlined in the U.S. constitution doesn’t seem to bother this cult. What lies ahead in 2024?

Robert, I have to agree with Scott. I am cynical and wonder that if I am innocent, why would I be a suspect in any crime? What would cause me to be questioned? And, it seems that law enforcement can get an fixed idea and not be open to several possibilities. Maybe that’s why people lawyer up.
Joan, sometimes law enforcement doesn’t know who committed the crime. They may have multiple suspects and accuse each of them independently to see how they react. In my experience, it’s always better to cooperate fully with the investigators. When a suspect cooperates, they usually fall out of the suspect category very quickly. When someone fails to cooperate, the opposite happens, the suspicion level of the investigators rises dramatically.
Joan, put yourself in the position of the detectives. If Joan fails to cooperate and tries to block the investigation, how do you think the detectives will respond? They will go after you big time.
However, if Joan fully cooperates and provides all the information they ask for and need, now the detectives will take a totally different mindset. Now, they will be working with you, as opposed to going after you.
